History of the Symposium

Sapporo Symposium on Partial Differential Equations is held annually to present the latest development in PDE. We aim to represent the broad spectrum of interests in its choice and do not focus on methods of one particular research group.

Sapporo Symposium on PDE was started in 1975 by Professor Taira Shirota and was subsequently developed by Professor Koji Kubota and Professor Rentaro Agemi. Owing to their great efforts, the symposium has been recognized as one of the main symposiums in PDE in Japan since the late 1980’s. Sapporo Symposium on PDE has become an international symposium since the mid 1990’s owing to the efforts of Professor Tohru Ozawa and Professor Yoshikazu Giga.
