The 16th Mathematics Conference for Young Researchers

To speakers and audience

In this conference, we look for speakers in oral presentations and poster presentations. Applying period is 1st(Tue)—31th(Thu) October.

About the presentations

The aspiring speaker can chose between "oral presentation" and "poster presentation". (Depending on the schedule and the number of speakers, your request might not be fulfilled)

  1. About oral presentations

In oral presentations there are single sessions (50' talk + 10' Q&A) and parallel sessions (25' talk + 5' Q&A)

Single sessions are held in a large room with all participants as audience. On the other hand, parallel sessions are distributed in 4 smaller rooms, one for each field (analysis, geometry, algebra, mathematical science). In every session we would like the speaker to include an easy introduction and approach since people from lots of fields of study are present. The organizers will be in charge of deciding the distribution of the speakers for the single and parallel sessions. Last year there were 4 single sessions and 70 parallel sessions. Projector, OHP and blackboard will be available in every presentation room. Speakers who would like to use projector, please bring your own PC. There are no document cameras.

  2. Poster session

In the poster session speakers present their results in the form of a poster. We expect the session to last one hour. Last year there were 15 speakers. Speakers should prepare an A0 size poster and whenever possible, post it from the first day to the last day of the conference.

From this year, for the purpose of revitalizing the poster session, we have set up a new session called "Poster preview". "Poster preview" is a section that introduces the contents of one's poster in about 3 minutes using slides for all participants before poster presentation. We wish that it help us to being able to see the outline of the entire poster presentation.

About travel expenses support

Travel expenses (including transport and lodging) are expected to be paid by the speaker. However, speakers who might find difficult to afford it can apply to traveling expenses support. Those who want to apply, please choose "Yes" in the "Apply to travel expenses support" field in the applying mail (see below).

For people abroad, please contact as beforehand. We will treat them separately.

Warning

Please note that not all travelling expenses might be covered and the help might only pay for the flight expenses. Moreover, we would not support those who have any other financial supports (e.g. JSPS KAKENHI). Further details will be discussed personally with each speaker. People applying for the help MUST ATTEND ALL DAYS during the conference. Also, the help will not cover personal affairs.

To audience

Lection attendants do not need to apply. We do not provide help for travelling expenses to non-speakers. All audience can also participate in the banquet. For further information, see Banquet.

About the issue of technical report series

The contents of all talks (including poster session) of this conference will be displayed in Hokkaido University Techinical Report Series in Mathematics. We will ask the speaker to submit a technical report as soon as the format (single, parallel, poster) is decided. Further information will be provided through e-mail as soon as the format is decided. (Tentative date: )

We will not distribute paper format of Hokkaido University Techinical Report Series in Mathematics. The technical reports will be displayed in the website. If needed, you will be able to download them and print them.

Technical reports further details

  • A4 size pdf file between 2 and 10 pages.
  • Japanese recommended (English also allowed)
  • This conference aims for interaction between lots of fields. Please include introduction and write in an easy to understand way.

About the banquet

We plan to have a banquet the second day of the conference. While eating, everyone will be able to discuss with the speakers. Last year's banquet also had very good reputation. Feel free to use this chance to communicate with other young researchers. Audience can also join. For further information, see Banquet.

About publication of the program

We will publish the contents of each talk (name, title, abstract, technical report) in this website. We kindly ask for your understanding.
