GENERAL INFORMATION Date of arrival to Bedlewo 30-31.08.2004 Date of departure from Bedlewo 7-8.09.2004 The scientific activity will start in the afternoon of August 31th. Last lectures are planned for the morning of September 7th. Basically we are planning one-hour morning plenary lectures and half-hour afternoon lectures. To give an opportunity for the spontaneous discussions and informal talks the number of regular lectures is going to be limited. The total cost of the participation (accommodation, all meals and the conference fee): 300 EUR If you are interested in attending to the Symposium and have not yet registered please send the registration form (enclosed at the end of this mail) to aito@mini.pw.edu.pl or office@banach.impan.gov.pl NOT LATER THAN ON JULY 16TH ************************************************************************ The data below are not intended to be exhaustive. More information about the Conference Center of IM PAN in Bedlewo, maps and details on getting there, links to the weather forecasts etc. can be found at www.impan.gov.pl/Bedlewo ************************************************************************ 2. LOCATION: The village of Bedlewo is located about 30 km south of Poznan- the largest (600,000 inhabitants) city of western Poland situated halfway between Warsaw and Berlin. The towns nearest to Bedlewo are Mosina - 10 km away, and Steszew - 8 km away. The address of the Conference Center is: Osrodek Konferencyjny IM PAN 60-060 Bedlewo ul. Parkowa 2 The Center's telephone number is: (+48 61) 813 51 87 (dial just 813 51 87 if you use a public phone within the Poznan region). The reception desk in Bedlewo works 24 hours a day. The conference centre consists of a neo-gothic palace, modern hotel and conference facilities and a 9 ha park adjoining the forests of the Wielkopolski National Park. 3. HOW TO REACH THE CONFERENCE SITE: Poznan Lawica airport has direct connections with several cities in Western Europe but generally you may need to change planes in Warsaw, Frankfurt or elsewhere. It is also possible to arrive by plane in Warsaw and go to Poznan by train, which takes 3 hours. From 6 AM to 7 PM there are trains from Warsaw to Poznan every hour, and the tickets (2nd class ticket with compulsory seat reservation costs 60-70 PLN i.e. about 15 EUR) can be bought both at the Warsaw Railway Station and at the "Orbis" travel agency airport branch. There are also 4 direct trains a day from Berlin to Poznan (this takes also about 3 hours but is slightly more expensive). If you are going by taxi from the airport to the city center (e.g. to the railway station in Warsaw or Poznan) we strongly suggest that you book one at the desks of regular taxi companies or the city information desks present in the airport arrival halls rather than take a cab just outside the airport building. Both Poznan and Warsaw have also buses joining the airports with the city centers - in Poznan bus 59 goes as far as Rondo Kaponiera 500m from the station, and the Warsaw bus no. 175 passes the main railway station (Dworzec Centralny) at 50m distance. When you reach Poznan Railway Station you can buy the ticket for a local train to Mosina, and there you can get a taxi to Bedlewo. The Center can organize the transportation between Bedlewo and Mosina and Poznan railway stations and Poznan airport (including buses for larger groups of participants). However in order to do this we need detailed hours of your arrival and departure. 4. DIET: Please let us know in advance if you need or wish a special diet. 5. WEATHER: Average temperatures in the beginning of September are 22'C at day and 12'C at night but in fact no values between 5 and 30 can be excluded. So please take also a warmer coat/raincoat, and sport shoes - especially that excursions with walks across forest and fields are planned (the center hires also bikes for rides in the forests). Number of sunny/rainy days in any given week in September cannot be predicted at all, so please consult the link to the weather forecast at www.impan.gov.pl/Bedlewo just before your arrival. 6. LECTURES, ABSTRACTS: The conference center has two lecture rooms equipped with blackboards and overhead projectors. Please let us know if you wish to use different projectors (e.g. connected to a notebook) during your talk. We kindly request you to send us the titles of the talks (and possibly abstracts) as soon as you can. 7. SOCIAL PROGRAM (provisional): Welcome party. Sightseeing - local attractions - museums. Evening garden party - barbecue (probably Saturday). Farewell party (probably Sunday). Some other interesting events. 8.
