PDE Seminar A finite element analysis of macroscopic critical state models for typeII superconductivity in 3D

 We consider the numerical analysis of evolution variationalinequalities which are derived from Maxwell's equations coupledwith a nonlinear constitutive relation between the electric fieldand the current density and governing the magnetic field arounda typeII bulksuperconductor located in 3D space. The nonlinearOhm's law is formulated using the subdifferential of a convexenergy so the theory is applied to the Bean critical state model,a powerlaw model, an extended Bean model and the double criticalstate model. The variational inequalities are discretized byNedelec's curlconforming finite element of lowest order. We provevarious convergence results. Some numerical simulations under auniform external magnetic field are presented.
