PDE Seminar A finite element analysis of macroscopic critical state models for type-II superconductivity in 3D

We consider the numerical analysis of evolution variationalinequalities which are derived from Maxwell's equations coupledwith a nonlinear constitutive relation between the electric fieldand the current density and governing the magnetic field arounda type-II bulksuperconductor located in 3D space. The nonlinearOhm's law is formulated using the subdifferential of a convexenergy so the theory is applied to the Bean critical state model,a power-law model, an extended Bean model and the double criticalstate model. The variational inequalities are discretized byNedelec's curl-conforming finite element of lowest order. We provevarious convergence results. Some numerical simulations under auniform external magnetic field are presented.
