Complex Systems Seminar Reconfiguration of a rhythmic motor program by a mechanoreceptor neuron

The mechanisms by which the CNS is able to switch from one behavioral repertoire to another remains poorly understood. Using the stomatogastric nervous system (STNS) of the lobster, we have explored the synaptic and cellular mechanisms by which a single primary mechanosensory neuronreconfigures motor output of a central pattern generator (CPG). We have shown that feedback from this sensor is able, in an activity-dependent manner, to specify different motor programs from a single CPG.
