PDE Seminar Numerical study of unstable periodic orbits in some chaotic dynamical systems

An infinite number of unstable periodic orbits are embedded in a chaotic
system. However, it is usually difficult to identify unstable periodic
orbits, because they cannot be identified by the forward time numerical
integration or iteration of the system. In this talk more than 1000
unstable periodic orbits of some continuous-time dynamical systems are
detected and used to investigate statistical properties. If time permits,
an attractor merging crisis is discussed from the point of view of
unstable periodic orbits.
