PDE seminar: Minimizing movements for droplet and bubbles

We will discuss the use of minimizing movements
for analyzing the behavior of certain free boundary
problems expressing the motion of liquid droplets
and bubbles. The variational nature of our approach
is found to easily allow volume constraints, as well
as to incorporate prescribed contact angles, and we
will show how to build the corresponding numerical
methods. The results of these methods, applied to
both scalar and non-scalar motions, will also be
presented.
