Monday Analysis Seminar: Quantitative approximation of Lyapunov exponents in non-archimedean and complex dynamics

We establish a quantitative approximation of the Lyapunov exponents of a rational function of degree more than one over more general fields than complex numbers, in terms of the multipliers of non-superattracting periodic points of the rational function.  The proof is based on a variational characterization of the canonical measure of a rational function using a potential theory on the Berkovich projective line.
