We consider a free boundary problem arising from materials science in one-dimensional case. The problem studied here is an obstacle problem for the non-convex energy consisting of a bending energy, tension and an adhesion energy. In this talk, we first see that "edge" singularities of the minimizers may occur at the free boundary as Alt-Caffarelli type variational problems if the bending energy is deleted. Moreover, we give a singular limit of the total energy in the sense of Γ-convergence when the bending energy can be regarded as a perturbation. This result tells us that our energy has a structure similar to phase transition models.
