Abstract: In classical probability, the class of infinitely divisible probability measures plays a central role in limit theorems for independent random variables. Through the works of French and Russian probability schools, we know that any limit law for sums or products of infinitesimal random variables must be infinitely divisible, and also the necessary and sufficient conditions for this approximation to take place has been found. We will give a report on the analogous results in free probability, in which one sees that the convergence in free limit theorems is much stronger than the classical ones.
