Although the organisms that we find in nature are
very diverse, most of them originate from a single
egg cell. This egg cell undergoes repeated cell
division and finally gives shape to complex and
diverse living organisms. This shows that cleavage
is the initial stage of the formation of the
living organism and it comprises the most fundamental
part of this process. Cleavage process
ends with the formation of blastula, and it is clear
that such a structure is never formed in a right
and reproducible fashion if cell division occurs
randomly. Therefore, there must be some rule
which regulates the cleavage process, and we
can ask the question, what kind of mechanisms
decides the appropriate timing and appropriate
site of cell division?
